H. "MICK" LEITZ - SENIOR SALVAGE MASTER* Mr. Leitz has been in the marine, and more specifically, the heavy marine salvage business since 1959 in various capacities. He has been employed by Fred Devine Diving & Salvage Co. 21 years in various positions including mariner, diver, operations and general manager, vice president and now president as well as being the company's senior salvage master for 16 years. As senior salvage master and president, Mr. Leitz is responsible for contracting all work, the conceptual planning and engineering for the various projects and personally supervising approximately 95% of all salvage operations.
In 1980, he formed a new company, J. H. Leitz & Associates, Inc. specializing in marine consulting. He is president and senior salvage master. Additionally, he is president of Leitz Marine Recovery Systems, a company involved in the design and construction of deep water recovery systems. Diversity in the salvage environment is Mr. Leitz's specialty. This is evidenced through his involvement in salvage operations on inland and ocean barges, tugs, fishing vessels, processing ships. floating bridges, dredges, derrick barges, jack-up drilling rigs, freighters, tankers, passenger liners, dry docks, and harbor clearance of derelict vessels. The salvage operations have ranged geographically from Alaska, including the Aleutians and the Arctic Ocean, Canada, and the entire West Coast of the U.S. He has also worked off of Texas, the West Coast of Mexico, Trinidad, the Hawaiian Islands and Guam. Numerous types of casualties have called upon Mr. Leitz's expertise. These include stranding, sinking, capsizing, ocean rescues, major ship fires and explosions. A variety of customers have also turned to him for assistance such as underwriters, oil companies, governments, marine constructions and tug and barge companies.
